Logan’s Stars and Stripes-emblazoned helmet is as stylish as it gets — but there’s more to Sarge’s lid than meets the eye.
For starters, it’s a vital safety accessory, designed with maximum impact and fire resistance in mind.
Consisting of a carbon fibre outer shell, foam liner, fireproof lining and finished with kevlar, LS2’s helmet is thoroughly tested before use, to ensure that it’s up to the highest standards.
That process involves a series of exhaustive assessments.
They include exposure to a 1454°F (790°C) flame, with a requirement that the helmet self-extinguishes once the flame is removed.
The chin guard is also tested for resistance to impacts and crushes, as is the lid more broadly — at various velocities and from differing positions.
And visors are subjected to a barrage of 1.2g pellets from an air rifle, to be sure that nothing will penetrate the helmet’s interior.
Protection from a crash or stray objects aside, Sarge’s lid assists with aerodynamics, too. After all, it is custom made, based on the unique contours of the Floridian’s head.
With radio and hydration system integration to boot, Logan’s helmet is undoubtedly a multi-faceted piece of kit.
So it will come as no surprise that it’s also an expensive one, with each helmet costing thousands of dollars and multiple versions being required throughout the season.
